Fredrik Holm
Born in Sweden in 1969, Fredrik Holm had no formal training in composition and did not begin writing music until he was over 40 years old. Since then, however, he has been remarkably prolific, producing more than 100 works for a wide variety of ensembles and settings, performed across the world.
Fredrik studied bassoon at the Malmö Academy of Music in southern Sweden, which led to positions at Malmö Opera House and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, as well as an active career as a respected chamber musician and soloist. He is also conductor of the Westmorland Youth Orchestra and a jazz band, and teaches composition at Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School.
Much of Fredrik’s output has been chamber music for less conventional combinations, such as flute, bassoon, and guitar. He has also received commissions for symphony orchestra, as well as for film and video. In the summer of 2025 he performed his own bassoon concerto in the Lake District for the fifth time.
